I met Sophie Bagur few years ago, when she started to work as a master student with Karim Benchenane at the ESPCI, (Paris, France). Since then she has started a PhD in his lab and I am really glad she’ll be spending some time with us in Montreal for the next 3 months. This morning, she presented her work on sleep scoring based on olfactory bulb dynamics (1), fascinating story. From now on, I will only refer to ‘falling asleep’ as a ‘stochastic transition to unconsciousness’ and ‘waking up’ as a ‘ballistic trajectory to active states’.

(some may notice that Marie Lacroix, who was a co-author on our 2015 HD cell story, is also an author on this one. Small world)
